I did enjoy writing my blog, because it was a new experience. I learned many things from this blog. Many facts I did not know. I learned about personal experiences, many different facts about people, inventions and about different cultures. I believe my typing skills did improve because of the daily typing experience. I will not continue to write this blog. I don’t really like to have something on my mind all the time. Thank you Ms Francy for giving us this assignment. (:

Nobel prize winners are awarded their money today…1.5 million dollars…what problem would you try to solve with this money?

I would most definitely donate half my money to the Ethiopian nation to help the African children with food and education. They need it the most. I would then give some of my money to the Amazon Rain Forest to preserve it because now there is only about 15 % left of it and I dont want one of the greatest gifts God has given to Mankind disappear. I would also give some money to the Cancer Research Program to help cure the disease. Its frightening to see so many people die from this horrific disease.

Do you like to wear the school uniform? Why or why not.

I have no problems with the school uniform. I do have problems with how strict the school is with enforcing the school uniform, to the point that students can get suspensions and detentions for uniform violations. OK, I get the ID card requirements, but what’s with the belt and the undershirts having to be white on white. Sometimes, when the rules are soo strict, people will rebel and that can lead to major problems. Our uniforms are tidy and make the school look good, but forcing us to buy everything from the school uniform shop is also somewhat unfair. I mean some of the clothes are very expensive and not everyone can afford to buy KD15 for a pair of pants or KD 12 for a shirt.

How is the Kuwait parliament different than the US congress?

For one thing, the actual election is different. In Kuwait, citizens who are above the age of 21 and are not in the military are allowed to vote, whereas in the US the voting age is 18 and every US citizen can vote. Another difference is the number of representatives. In Kuwait, the parliament is made up of 50 members from the 5 voting districts in the country, whereas in the US, every state gets to have 2 representatives. Obviously one of the biggest differences is the actual constitution. Both constitutions state some basic rights, such as freedom of speech, freedom to education and the right to have jobs and raise families, however, the Kuwait constitution states that Islam is the religion of the country, whereas the US constitution separates religion from state affairs.

What is wrong with child labor?

Child labor means children going out to work and becoming the bread winner of the family. That is just wrong. Children are supposed to do two things only. One study and two have fun. It’s as simple as that. Having kids go to work to earn a living for their family is just wrong. It is against all standards of humanity and of the children’s right to be well kids. I read once, that the Nike factories in the far east hired boys below the age of 10 to help make the shoes that are sold for over $100. Nike should be be sued and people should boycott their shoes if that is true.

How are the customs of the classrooms in UAS different from the customs that are in government schools?

The biggest difference between UAS and government schools are the freedoms we have to debate and to question everything. In govt. schools students are expected to obey blindly everything that the teacher says, they are not allowed to think for themselves and everything they learn is off by memory. At UAS, we are taught to be critical thinkers and to develop our leadership skills. UAS, unlike govt. schools expects students to give and take with the teacher. In addition, we do a lot of projects that are supposed to enhance our imagination and to make us think outside the box, whereas in govt. schools, students are taught in a very traditional way that does not allow for creativity or growth.

Do you know any one who doesnt know how to read or write?

Our maid, does not not know how to read or write. She is from India, and has been at our house for about 17 years. I cant imagine what its like not to be able to read a book or write a letter. I am luck to have the opportunity to get a well-developed education from an excellent school. With Mina, we tried to teach her some english, and I would sit with her and help her write the grocery list and letters to her children in India.

Do you think children are more violent today than they use to be?

Children are MUCH more violent than they used to be, because of all the movies and Television that their parents are letting them watch. but Not only is it T.v, there is also Video games that have no limits to the amount of gore and blood that are shown. These games are also prejudice and in some cases racist, for example, Grand Theft Auto. It show exactly how to be a criminal, and you get awarded points every time you kill somebody, or rob a bank.

National Fast Food Day. What did you eat for dinner yesterday?

Yesterday, I ate some delicious home made Hamburgers. (: It had lettuce,tomatoes,and cheese. As for fast food, truth be told, I love it. I know that its unhealthy, will cause acne, gain weight, but It is sooo goood! I try to only Fast Food have once a week. But its hard when theres a Hardeez, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut and Baskin Robbins right next to our house!

My favorite childrens book is Holes by Louis Sachar. Its a boys book and it talks about the struggles of young boys who are sent to rehabilitation camp to solve their issues. But in reality the camp is ran by a mean woman who wants the boys to dig holes in the Texas desert looking for lost treasure. In the end of the story, the hero finds the treasure and shares it with his best friend. He refuses to show the camp manager the treasure. I would like to change that. I would have made Stanley show her the treasure just to spite her.
